Spotted Catfish

Spotted Catfish

This is another one of my recently sold paintings that I wanted to highlight again! As a person who loves painting fish, when my friends caught this crazy, weird, rare, channel catfish they caught, I absolutely had to draw it.

To my knowledge this spotted pattern is caused by a genetic mutation, either piebaldism or leucism. A few weeks after I had been granted permission to paint, my husband and I went ice-fishing with the couple who caught this fish, which inspired the bottom half of the drawing (the lures).

I feel like both halves of this piece really work together to tell this story, and I've repeated this layout a few times with different fish, as it's become one of my favorite ways to draw my fish. I'm so happy this painting has gone to a good home :) She will be missed. xoxo - Miranda
